Hilla slings, handwoven cotton- linen wrap

Babywearing is a really great and wonderful experience. I still didn't see all machine woven wraps but i already have the chance to discover handwoven wraps world, thanks to a great seamstress, who does weave Hilla Slings in Finland.

Hilla Slings is a finish brand of handwoven wraps, created by Taru, babywearing and passionated mum. Mother of a 2 years-old kid, she created Hilla slings in 2013.
Taru is so enthusiast with her job that she participed on the Great competition of Weavers.last autumn.

This weaving pattern, with caracteristical diamonds makes a diagonally stretchy wrap. There is a black middlemarker.  Weight of this cotton-linen wrap is 290g/m² but wrap seems very light yet.

Hilla Slings wraps are sent with a note of Taru explaining she does love to know what clients do think about her wraps and how to clean each type of wrap (Hilla slings are 100 % cotton or cotton-wool or cotton- linen or silk)

Hilla Slings are washed  before being sent, which allows to use them immediately.
My first surprise when i opened the box was the fabric : a handwoven wrap depends of what the seamstress used to weave it, and is always a unique piece. The other thing is that i never touched an handwoven wrap.

This is this handwoven technical which also explains that weaving pattern is not always perfect, you can find minor deviations in the weaving pattern. That is totally normal and doesn't reduce the wrap's usability, quality or value. Deviations only are only visual.

I immediately found this Hilla Wrap very thin.. thanks to a loose-woven pattern : you can see the light throught it.

I was nearly afraid of touching and using the wrap, being afraid of riping it. But it was only an impression, because linen is very resistant on the contrary .

Linen is an ideal composition for summer, thanks to thermical regulation capacities. Moreover, this is a very very supportive fabric.

This is also a material that creases very easily (like clothes) and that is a little bit rough at the beginning. But the wrap isn't stiff as we could think.

So it was a wrap very different of all others i had touched until now. It was a little bit difficult to knot correctly and adjust the fabric fold to fold at the beginning, because of a very "light" fabric. I didn't have my usual habits and had to think other way to spread the fabric over the back of my baby. But what i immediately felt was how much the wrap was supportive with the 12 kilos of my toddler !

I wore with multi-layers carries (Double hammock, Half Jordan's because wrap is short) to go and walk or just to stay at home doing my housework and wrap is always supportive.

I let my daughter sleeping 2 hours in a simple-layer carry (rucksack carry) and my daughter even didn't "fall", i din't have to knot again , which does confirm that wrap is very well for a heavy toddler. This is really very comfortable.

I did a ring-sling too and that was very easy to fit in the ring, i thought it would grip a little bit, but finally it didn't at all.
I do love doing a ring-sling when i go outside and that i may need to wear quickly but for a short time.

In conclusion i must say that this is a very precious, "floating" and unique wrap. A very solid wrap that i do love much and that is beautiful. I know too that the more i'll use it, the softer it's going to become !

You can find precious Hilla Slings on  Facebook
Taru even offers you to choose your colours, your weaving pattern, that"s handwoven wrap privilege, so go and see her website et ses merveilles.
